Nutrify vs MacroFactor
Which is better, what each costs, what you keep if you switch, and where MacroFactor beats us. We checked all of it in September 2026.
Is Nutrify better than MacroFactor?
For some things, and this is our own site so weigh it accordingly. Nutrify is ahead on intermittent fasting, water tracking, meal planning, recipes. MacroFactor remains the better choice for serious athletes and bodybuilders.
How much does Nutrify cost compared to MacroFactor?
Nutrify is $34.99 a year, $12.99 a month, or $99 once for lifetime. MacroFactor is $71.99 a year, which is 2.1× what we charge. Every Nutrify feature is open during the free trial and there is no second tier above it.
Can I switch from MacroFactor to Nutrify without losing my data?
Partly, and the honest answer matters here. Your weight history and workouts come across through Apple Health or Health Connect, because both apps read and write the platform. Your food diary does not. No tracker in this category can import another's, Nutrify included. Saved foods rebuild in about a week of normal logging. Before you uninstall MacroFactor, check it has been syncing weight to the platform, and take the CSV export while you still can.

MacroFactor: the pitch and the reports
A feature table only tells you what an app ships. This is what MacroFactor says about itself, and what people say after living with it.
What MacroFactor says
- An adaptive expenditure algorithm that recalculates your targets weekly from your own intake and weight trend
- Built by research reviewers Greg Nuckols and Eric Trexler
- No ads, ever, and no free tier, the product is the subscription
What users praise
- The expenditure algorithm is the most consistently praised feature in the category, described as doing weekly what a coach would
- It does not shame you for missing a day, the algorithm absorbs the gap rather than breaking a streak, which users repeatedly cite as why they stayed after abandoning other apps
- Genuinely ad-free
What users complain about
- No free tier and $71.99 a year
- Assumes comfort with technical nutrition concepts, which is a lot of overhead for casual tracking
Our read
The expenditure model is more rigorous than our SMART Goals and is the main reason to choose MacroFactor. Its no-streak-shaming stance is also a better idea than most of the gamification in this category, ours included. We are cheaper, log six ways rather than two, and cover fasting, water and supplements it does not touch.

Why Users Switch from MacroFactor to Nutrify
1. Effortless Tracking Saves Time
A photo is one action. Searching a database for a home-cooked meal is a query, a scroll, a judgement call between near-identical entries and a portion guess, repeated for every component on the plate. We have not run a controlled timing study, so we are not going to quote you a number - the saving is in the number of decisions, not in seconds we invented.
2. More Accurate Nutritional Data
Manual entry hides its guesswork: picking "1 cup, cooked" from a list is still an estimate, it just looks precise. Nutrify estimates from the actual plate and shows you the per-ingredient breakdown it used, so the guess is visible and you can correct the line that is wrong.
3. Better User Experience
A clean, modern interface without ads or clutter makes tracking enjoyable rather than a chore. Users are more likely to stick with their goals when the app is pleasant to use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch from MacroFactor to Nutrify easily?
Yes! Nutrify is designed to be intuitive from day one. You can start tracking immediately with photo recognition - no need to learn complicated database systems or build custom food lists.
Will I lose my data if I switch?
Your food diary does not transfer - MacroFactor does not share logged entries with other apps, and no tracker in this category can import them. Your weight history and workouts do carry over, because both apps read and write Apple Health on iOS and Health Connect on Android. Saved foods and favourites have to be rebuilt, which in practice takes about a week of normal logging.
Is Nutrify's AI photo recognition really that accurate?
Yes! Our AI achieves high accuracy through sophisticated algorithms and continuous learning. You can always review and adjust the results if needed. Many users find it more accurate than manually guessing portion sizes.
How long is the free trial?
Nutrify offers a 7-day free trial with full access to all premium features. That is plenty of time to test the AI photo recognition and see if it's right for you, and you can cancel any time before the trial ends.
