Nutrify vs Cronometer
Which is better, what each costs, what you keep if you switch, and where Cronometer beats us. We checked all of it in September 2026.
Is Nutrify better than Cronometer?
For some things, and this is our own site so weigh it accordingly. Nutrify is ahead on AI photo logging, voice logging, meal planning, no ads. Cronometer remains the better choice for health enthusiasts wanting detailed micronutrient data.
How much does Nutrify cost compared to Cronometer?
Nutrify is $34.99 a year, $12.99 a month, or $99 once for lifetime. Cronometer is $59.99 a year, which is 1.7× what we charge. Every Nutrify feature is open during the free trial and there is no second tier above it.
Can I switch from Cronometer to Nutrify without losing my data?
Partly, and the honest answer matters here. Your weight history and workouts come across through Apple Health or Health Connect, because both apps read and write the platform. Your food diary does not. No tracker in this category can import another's, Nutrify included. Saved foods rebuild in about a week of normal logging. Before you uninstall Cronometer, check it has been syncing weight to the platform, and take the CSV export while you still can.

Cronometer: the pitch and the reports
A feature table only tells you what an app ships. This is what Cronometer says about itself, and what people say after living with it.
What Cronometer says
- Research-grade data from USDA and NCC rather than crowd-sourced entries
- Up to 80-odd nutrients per entry, more than any mainstream tracker
- Built for people who want precision over speed
What users praise
- The database quality is the single most cited reason people stay
- Micronutrient depth nothing else in the category matches
- Barcode scanner is reliable and auto-fills label data
What users complain about
- Slow app startup and sync problems
- No offline mode
- Photo Log and Voice Log both require Gold
What independent research found
The same study that found poor validity in MyFitnessPal found good reliability and validity in Cronometer across every nutrient except fibre, vitamin A and vitamin D. Agreement between two people entering the same records reached 0.966 for energy and 0.977 for carbohydrates. It is one study on 43 Canadian endurance athletes, so it does not settle the question, but it is the closest thing to independent measurement this category has.
Morello et al., Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, October 2025Our read
Cronometer tracks far more nutrients than we do, against better-sourced data. If micronutrient precision is why you track at all, it is the right tool. Where it struggles is speed. It is built for someone weighing an ingredient at home, not someone photographing a plate in a restaurant.

Why Users Switch from Cronometer to Nutrify
1. Effortless Tracking Saves Time
A photo is one action. Searching a database for a home-cooked meal is a query, a scroll, a judgement call between near-identical entries and a portion guess, repeated for every component on the plate. We have not run a controlled timing study, so we are not going to quote you a number - the saving is in the number of decisions, not in seconds we invented.
2. More Accurate Nutritional Data
Manual entry hides its guesswork: picking "1 cup, cooked" from a list is still an estimate, it just looks precise. Nutrify estimates from the actual plate and shows you the per-ingredient breakdown it used, so the guess is visible and you can correct the line that is wrong.
3. Better User Experience
A clean, modern interface without ads or clutter makes tracking enjoyable rather than a chore. Users are more likely to stick with their goals when the app is pleasant to use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch from Cronometer to Nutrify easily?
Yes! Nutrify is designed to be intuitive from day one. You can start tracking immediately with photo recognition - no need to learn complicated database systems or build custom food lists.
Will I lose my data if I switch?
Your food diary does not transfer - Cronometer does not share logged entries with other apps, and no tracker in this category can import them. Your weight history and workouts do carry over, because both apps read and write Apple Health on iOS and Health Connect on Android. Saved foods and favourites have to be rebuilt, which in practice takes about a week of normal logging.
Is Nutrify's AI photo recognition really that accurate?
Yes! Our AI achieves high accuracy through sophisticated algorithms and continuous learning. You can always review and adjust the results if needed. Many users find it more accurate than manually guessing portion sizes.
How long is the free trial?
Nutrify offers a 7-day free trial with full access to all premium features. That is plenty of time to test the AI photo recognition and see if it's right for you, and you can cancel any time before the trial ends.
