Collecting and Using Your Personal Data

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address (via Google or Apple Sign-In)
  • First name and last name
  • Profile photo (optional, from social login)
  • Health and fitness data (height, weight, age, gender, fitness goals)
  • Food and meal images you upload or scan
  • Nutritional intake logs (calories, macros, meals)
  • Exercise and activity logs
  • Device health data (when you enable HealthKit or Google Health Connect integration)
  • Subscription and payment information (processed by Apple or Google, not stored by us)
  • Usage Data

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When you access the Service by or through a mobile device, we may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device unique ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser you use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

We may also collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service or when you access the Service by or through a mobile device.

Health Data

When you use our mobile app and grant permissions, we may access and sync health data from:

  • Apple HealthKit (iOS): Active calories burned, basal energy burned, and other health metrics
  • Google Health Connect (Android): Activity data and calories burned

This health data is used solely to provide you with accurate calorie tracking and exercise logging. We do not share your health data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Your health data (your weight, the food you log, and anything you sync from Apple Health or Health Connect) is used only to run and improve Nutrify. It is never used for advertising.

Camera and Photo Access

Our app requests camera and photo library access to enable food scanning features. Photos you take or select are:

  • Processed by our AI to identify food items and estimate nutritional content
  • Stored in your account for meal logging purposes
  • Used to improve our AI models (in anonymized form)
  • Never shared publicly or sold to third parties

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate our app:

  • Firebase (Google): Authentication, database storage, cloud functions, and push notifications
  • Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In: User authentication
  • Resend: Email delivery for trial codes and notifications
  • Apple In-App Purchase / Google Play Billing: Subscription processing (payment information is handled by Apple/Google, not stored by us)
  • Meta (Facebook) SDK / TikTok Business SDK: Advertising measurement and campaign optimization. Never used in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland. On iOS, your device's advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking when asked, but some install and subscription measurement happens without it — see below
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management, and forwarding of subscription events to Meta on our behalf for advertising measurement
  • Firebase Analytics (Google): Usage analytics, such as which screens and features are used. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, Google's advertising uses of this data are switched off
  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google): Crash reports, including your device model, operating system and app version, and what the app was doing when it crashed
  • PostHog: Session replay for a limited period after you start using the app — see below
  • Apple Search Ads attribution (iOS): Tells us which Apple Search Ads campaign, if any, led to your install — see below
  • Google Play Install Referrer (Android): Tells us which store link or campaign led to your install — see below

These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle your data. We recommend reviewing their policies.

Session Replay (PostHog)

To see where the app is confusing, we record how the app is used for 7 days, starting when you first open it without being signed in, when you sign up, or when you first see a subscription screen. The recording captures the app's screens and your taps, so it can include what is shown on screen, such as your weight or the food you log. The live camera view on the scan screens is always hidden. Recordings are not linked to your name, email or Nutrify account. Once the 7 days end, recording stops on that install and does not start again.

Install Attribution

On iOS, RevenueCat collects an attribution token from Apple when you first open the app. Apple uses it to tell us which Apple Search Ads campaign, if any, led to your install. It does not use your advertising identifier.

On Android, we read the Google Play Install Referrer once, which tells us which store link or campaign led to your install. The campaign details (source, medium, campaign and any invite code) are stored with your account and shared with RevenueCat so we can see which campaigns bring in subscribers. Ad click identifiers in the referrer are never sent from the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland.

Advertising and Marketing SDKs

Our app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK and the TikTok Business SDK. These SDKs receive app events such as app opens, installs, free trial starts and purchases; your device's advertising identifier, where we are permitted to read it; and, if you installed the app from an ad, a click identifier. This information is used to measure and optimize our advertising campaigns.

On Android, this happens from the first time you open the app, and includes your advertising identifier.

On iOS, it happens in two stages. When you first install the app, the Meta SDK sends an install event together with an identifier that is specific to this app on this device. That identifier is not your device's advertising identifier: it is not shared with other apps, it cannot be used to follow you across apps or websites, and it is discarded if you delete the app. Your device's advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking when iOS asks you. If you decline, we never read it — but measurement of installs and subscriptions continues using the app-specific identifier described above.

RevenueCat, the service that manages our subscriptions, forwards subscription events (trial started, purchase, renewal) to Meta's Conversions API on our behalf, for the same purpose. This is done with an anonymized identifier and, if you provided one, a hashed version of your email address. On iOS this happens whichever answer you gave to the tracking prompt, because it does not rely on your advertising identifier.

None of this applies in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. If your device region is set to one of those, we switch both SDKs off entirely and send nothing to Meta or TikTok, rather than ask you to consent to advertising tracking.

We do not sell this data. It is shared only with these providers to measure and improve our advertising. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising identifier, and opt out of personalized ads, in your device settings under Settings > Privacy > Ads. On iOS your App Tracking Transparency answer controls whether we may read your advertising identifier, and you can change it at any time under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

For more information, see the privacy policies of Meta, TikTok, and RevenueCat.
