Definition
Hypersensitivity refers to an exaggerated response by the immune system to a substance that in most people causes no symptoms.
Scientific / Technical Definition
Hypersensitivity reactions are abnormal reactions of the immune system that occur in response to exposure to an antigen. These reactions can be classified into four types, ranging from immediate reactions like those seen with allergies to delayed reactions involving the cellular immune response.
