A sit-up is a physical exercise that primarily works the rectus abdominis, the muscle that runs vertically along the anterior wall of the human abdomen. During the exercise, the person starts in a supine position with the knees bent then lifts their torso to an upright position using their abdominal muscles, and subsequently lowers it back to the starting position.
