Definition

An ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain is obstructed, leading to a reduction in blood flow and oxygen to brain tissue.

Ischemic stroke is characterized by the blockage of a cerebral artery, most commonly due to a blood clot or plaque buildup. This blockage deprives brain cells of oxygen and nutrients, causing cell death if untreated.
